The idea for this DVD has been cooking for some time. Two years ago, I decided to design a necklace and earrings for my wedding. I was an OK beader but had never designed anything from scratch that I loved and wore regularly. I knew I was expecting a lot from myself when I set out to make jewelry that…
1) reflected me, my body, and my wedding dress 3) appealed to me enough to wear over and over again after my big day.
Those three goals are literally all I started with. From there, I researched what it means to “find inspiration” and “translate” it into jewelry. I studied copyright law to get a grasp on the fine line between using someone’s work as inspiration and infringing on their ideas. I learned how to shop for pearls, that perennial bridal accessory, right on the floor of the Bead&Button Show. I discovered how necklace lengths complement or compete with face shapes and necklines. And I strung variation after variation on theme after theme until I arrived at my final necklace and earrings designs.
